Botany:
Brinjal plant, often called as Eggplant, belongs to family Solanaceae. The plant grows to a height of 40-150cm. Leaves are coarsely lobed that are 10-20cm long and 5-10cm broad. It is a perennial plant and is delicate in nature that has purple colored edible fruit. In general, it is classified as a berry that contains many soft and small edible seeds that are bitter in taste as it has nictotinoid alkaloids in it.
History of Brinjal plant:
First of all, Eggplant was introduced by Arabs to Europeans. Later on, it was carried by Persians to Africans. During early 1800s, it was then carried by Spaniards to the New World where they introduced both purple and white coloured varieties of Brinjal to the Americans.
